Jetting off to an exotic destination is high risk right now, with so many international travel restrictions regarding coronavirus in place. However, don’t worry as you can take a trip to the magical world of Hogwarts without needing to step foot on a plane.
The North Shire, situated in Liverton on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, has just opened a new accommodation modelled on the common room in Gryffindor house at Hogwarts – and guests can stay here for £50pp per night.
The Dorm has six single beds – which is handy given the current rule of six – so you and your fellow wizards can get away for a long weekend of pretending you’re at Hogwarts.
When you’re not in your four poster beds, you’ll be to relax together in the open plan lounge area, which boasts a large stone fireplace.
It makes the perfect spot for practicing your spells or enjoying a few butterbeers. There’s also a little kitchen if you fancy cooking up a feast worthy of Dumbledore’s grand dining hall.
The bathroom also features numerous nods to the wizarding world, namely a ‘specially-commissioned backlit stained glass window’ depicting a blonde mermaid that became famous in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and a number of ornate Gothic style features which offer ‘a further nod to the opulence of the prefects’ bathroom’
Explaining why she decided to create The Dorm, business entrepreneur and designer Carol Cavendish said: “We stayed positive during the darkness of lockdown and used the time to crack on with completing the next phase of our vision for creating a fantasy story-book themed holiday venue that suits families and those looking to stage a memorable get-together – whether it’s a wedding, birthday party or other function.
“Today when there’s so much fear around the pandemic, people are looking for ways they can step back from reality for a short time and be comforted in a world of make-believe which is just what The Dorm aims to do along with our other accommodation.” A stay at The Dorm is priced at £50 per person per night, based on a six-person booking.
