Know A Kid Who Loves Cake? Matilda The Musical Is Looking For A Bruce Bogtrotter

If you know a talented, young boy who can sing, dance and who absolutely loves scoffing chocolate cake, this might be the perfect role for them.

The producers of Matilda the Musical have launched a casting call in the UK today to fill the role of Bruce Bogtrotter, in its upcoming screen adaptation of the hit musical Matilda.

The casting call is looking for an “incredible dancer” to play Bruce Bogtrotter, a loveable, fun, character who is a friend and classmate of Matilda’s.

Young male actors and dancers interested in the role need to be 4ft6 or under, and must be at least 9 years old by January 2021. No previous acting experience is required. All shapes and sizes welcomed, but dance ability is key.

In the 1996 film adaptation, directed by Danny DeVito, Jimmy Karz plays Bruce. In one of the many iconic scenes from the film, Bruce is forced to heat a humungous chocolate cake by Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris) in front of the entire school after he steals a slice of her “favourite snack”.

Seeing Bruce gorge slice after slice of chocolate cake, the close-up shots of the chocolate icing smudged all over his mouth and Miss Trunchbull holding a riding crop and sneering as she forces the poor student to eat the entire confection is something we will never forget!

With the support of Matilda (Mara Wilson), Lavender (Kiami Daveel) and all the other Crunchem Hall Elementary School students, Bruce finds the courage to finish the cake, much to the chagrin of Miss Trunchbull, who smashes the empty glass plate over Bruce’s head and forces all the students into detention.

Matilda the Musical, a Working Title Films production, is a feature film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’, based on the musical play written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, to be directed by Matthew Warchus.

The new film follows the story of a young bookworm prodigy mistreated by her ignorant parents. At a school run by a terrifying headmistress, Miss Agatha Trunchbull, Matilda finds a kindred spirit in her kind-hearted teacher, Miss Honey.
