Sarah Jessica Parker Confirms Sex And The City Reboot Is Happening But Samantha Won’t Be In It

The highly anticipated reboot of Sex and the City has been officially confirmed by lead Sarah Jessica Parker.

The actor who played the iconic Carrie Bradshaw posted a clip of the news on her Instagram account.

The video revealed the new look series will be called Just Like That, which is a nod to how Carrie would start or end many of her stories.

Parker will be joined by her old cast mates Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, however Kim Cattrall won’t be involved, with the two famously having an off-screen feud.

In SJP’s Instagram post, she captioned it with: “I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?”

This seemingly implies that we will pick up Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte years after we last saw them. We’ll get the characters we know and love, but the world we recognise today. Anyone who watches reruns of old episodes will note how dated it is for audiences in 2021. There’s no Tinder, no smartphones or even WiFi.

Just Like That will inject some modernity into the characters and see what life is like in the 21st Century.

The series will premiere on HBO Max but no release date has been confirmed.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.

The reboot series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and production is expected to get underway in New York City around May.

Two years ago, Sarah Jessica Parker, who was also a producer on the HBO show, told Entertainment Tonight that she was interested in doing ‘some episodes of Sex and the City’ but added: “I wouldn’t call it a reboot, I would call it a ‘revisit.'”

Parker said: “I’d like to see where all of them are. I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie… technology and social media.”

As well as this, she hoped to explore ‘sexual politics and the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up… I think Carrie Bradshaw would just be so greedy to share her feelings and thoughts.’
