Whilst he’s usually referencing gin and juice, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg, is actually more of a red wine man nowadays. He loves it so much, in fact, that he’s recently announced he’s launching his own blend.
To seal the deal, the US rapper has teamed with Australian wine producer 19 Crimes to bring you Snoop Cali Red.
So what kind of wine will Snoop Dogg give us a sniff of? Well, the upcoming blend is made using 65 percent Petite Syrah, 30 percent Zinfandel, and five percent Merlot, according to Food & Wine.
And what about the name? Surely he’s not referencing the number of crimes he’s committed?
Thankfully, not. The 19 Crime range of wines gets its name from a list of 19 crimes that would have seen Brits sent over to Australia back in the 18th Century.
According to the company’s website: “Nineteen crimes turned convicts into colonists. Upon conviction British rogues guilty of a least one of the 19 crimes were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death.”
Treasury Wine Estates (TWE), the parent company of 19 Wines, has said the rapper is the ‘perfect partner’ for the wine-maker.
TWE marketing vice president John Wardley said: “Snoop Dogg, an entertainment and California icon, is the perfect partner for 19 Crimes Snoop Cali Red.
“Snoop embodies the spirit of 19 Crimes – rule breaking, culture creating and overcoming adversity. We are truly excited to partner with Snoop and welcome him to the 19 Crimes family.”
Meanwhile, Snoop told media sources: “I’ve been a fan of this wine and I’m excited to unveil my ‘Snoop Cali Red’ this summer and share the experience with all my fans. It’s one of the most successful brands in the market, so I’m more than eager to bring this collaboration to the world!”
As yet, we don’t have a date when you’ll be able to get your filthy paws on a bottle, but 19 Crimes has confirmed it will be ‘this summer’.
While the label image pictured on Treasury Wine Estates’ Facebook page does show Snoop’s face, it’s not yet known whether these will be “augmented reality” labels which would allow for them to be sound-enhanced via the Living Wine Labels app. If so, though, then Snoop could be known as the innovator who brought the world its first-ever rapping wine label.
It seems Snoop isn’t stopping at wine, either, and he’s even got his finger in a few other pies – meat to be exact. Earlier this month, he revealed he would joining forces with plant-based company Beyond Meat to provide more than one million burgers for those who needed them during the coronavirus pandemic, including front line workers and foodbank users.
Posting on Instagram, he wrote: “Beyond Meat has made a pledge to donate over 1 million Beyond Burgers to those in need during these challenging times and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Whilst we don’t know when it will be launched in the UK, what we do know is that it is set to be sold for $12, which is around £12 – making this an absolute bargain bottle. Echo Falls, move over!
